I am currently writing this in my robe laying on my couch, where I have been the last two days, only moving to go to work. This is mostly because I did a half marathon on my birthday. With absolutely no training. I mean, I dont normally train a whole lot for them [I have done about 4 others] but I at lease try to run 5 miles a couple days a week leading up to the event. This time? I ran 2 - 5k's in the 2 months prior. Period. Dot. And those 5Ks? They were the Warrior Dash and the Zombie Run so they dont even really count because I didn't run the whole time for those. hehe.
This half marathon was out at Lake Meade which is just gorgeous.
Here it is around 630am on my birthday
Pretty huh?
So this Marathon [half] - was called "The REALLY BIG FREE MARATHON" because it was, well, free. Which, if you have ever done any of these events, is pretty darn cool. Especially because we still got a T-shirt and a medal at the end. 8-)
When I got to the location, I remembered it from a couple years ago when, my senior year at USAFA, I did the PumpkinMan Triathlon here - my FIRST ever triathlon. I also remembered how hilly the bike portion of the course was which, coincidentally looked JUST like the course I was about to run for the half marathon.

See, there we are in 2010. This is where the bike of the Tri started...and the run of my half marathon started. |

Hasn't lost its beauty |

Just a throwback to the tri-team days since I mentioned them |
Yah. It was lots of hills.. All hills really. But it was so pretty and it was nice to just be me and my head and the gorgeous view. When I was finished, I grabbed my water bottle and banana that they were handing out and hopped in the car to head home. Any kind of race like that is always a lot more fun when you have someone to do it with you, hopefully next time I plan far enough out to have someone do the event with me.
If you are thinking I am crazy, you probably have not done one yet. Anyone can do a half marathon - seriously. There was an elderly couple who I am pretty sure power walked the entire 13.1 miles together. You just have to SIGN UP. When you are sitting at the computer next time [or right now] with that bowl of ice cream or that beer, just search marathons in your area and sign up!
Till next time
